A calm down corner or area is a wonderful tool to use with kids who are quick to anger. Some kids need a bit more help calming down than others, and having a safe space in which to do so can be incredibly helpful. Providing tools and resources to your kids in the classroom or at home is an integral part of an effective calm down corner (here is a list of things to keep in your calm down kit!). These calm down printables are wonderful additions, and not only help the child calm down, but give them the skills and tools do so themselves anywhere.
How to Help a Child Calm Down
Saying “calm down” doesn’t work. It seems intuitive and understandable, but for kids who are really upset, it does nothing to teach them how to achieve calm, rather, it often exacerbates the feeling. There are ways we can help them calm down, and tools to teach them, so that if you do use the phrase they know what it means, but, chances are, you won’t even have to.
Here are FREE calm down printables that are effective in teaching and providing kids with the necessary skills to calm down. Print these out, keep them in your purse, hang them on a wall, stick them to the fridge, and you will notice a difference.
